Targeting Intraocular Pressure in Glaucoma: a Teaching Case Report

Glaucoma is a range of conditions that causes a loss of retinal ganglion cell axons within the nerve fiber layer resulting in vision loss. Although many novel treatments for glaucoma are being investigated, the mainstay therapy is control and reduction of intraocular pressure (IOP). Upon diagnosis, the setting of an IOP target is the first step in the management of any glaucoma patient. This case report presents an example of one method for determining target IOP along with a brief review of the literature. This report is aimed for thirdand fourthyear optometric students and practicing optometrists managing glaucoma.
